International Roadcheck: May 12-14, 2026 | 72-hour enforcement window | ~17 trucks inspected per minute.
WHAT IT IS
The 2026 International Roadcheck
The CVSA International Roadcheck is the largest targeted CMV enforcement program in the world. Inspectors across the U.S., Canada, and Mexico conduct roughly 17 truck and bus inspections per minute over a continuous 72-hour window. Each year, one driver focus and one vehicle focus are designated to reflect the most pressing compliance trends.
For 2026, those two areas directly threaten active capacity. Inspectors are targeting ELD tampering, falsification, and manipulation on the driver side (last year's log falsification violations exceeded 58,000 citations), and cargo securement on the vehicle side. Drivers found with manipulated logs or improperly secured loads face immediate out-of-service orders, taking trucks off the road mid-week.
2026 Focus Areas:
Driver Focus: ELD Tampering, Falsification, and Manipulation
Vehicle Focus: Cargo Securement
WHAT IT MEANS FOR YOUR FREIGHT
Rates spike fast
Out-of-service orders pull trucks immediately. Tighter capacity means instant rate pressure across lanes, especially as the day progresses into afternoon and evening.
Late-day fallouts get expensive
Loads that fall out in the afternoon hit the spot market at its worst moment. Every hour of delay compounds your exposure to premium rates. Plan accordingly and get freight tendered early in the day.
Longer transit times
More inspection stops extend transit windows across the board. Build additional buffer into delivery commitments before May 12 and communicate proactively with your customers.
WHAT TO DO
Prime your carrier base now. Alert them blitz week is coming. Set the expectation that true market rates apply, and fallouts or tender rejections due to mis-quoted rates based off prior weeks will be unacceptable.
Know who goes silent. Carriers that disappear during blitz week are showing you their character. Log it. That is transactional behavior, not partnership. Or worse, unreliable or unsafe capacity that poses a bigger liability.
Take the truck in hand. If a rate is on the table and the load needs to move, take it. Waiting rarely leads to better options as the day progresses.
Use this week as a network audit. Who showed up? Who didn't? Use the data to refine your carrier mix toward long-term, trust-based partners built for the hard weeks.
WHAT NOT TO DO
Don't rate shop when it matters most. The longer you wait in the day, the worse it gets. Chasing the cheapest quote during blitz week is a losing game.
Don't blast tenders early to "lock in lower rates". Pre-sending at yesterday's pricing leads to fallouts. You'll pay a premium when you re-cover the same day at spot.
Don't delay getting product out the door. Every hour a load sits untendered costs more than whatever rate gap you were trying to avoid.
Don't let broker silence slide. Brokers who go dark rather than have a hard conversation during volatile markets aren't partners. Treat them accordingly going forward.
